Brave Smash was something of a mystery in the inaugural The Everest in 2017 but he emerged with a third placing and the standing of one of the nation’s best sprinters.
Since that performance, the rising six-year-old has proven himself as a Group 1 performer with an impressive win in the Futurity Stakes at Caulfield and a narrow second behind Redkirk Warrior in the Newmarket Handicap.
His presence in the 2018 The Everest sees a pairing of Australia’s two dominant trainers as he’ll run in the slot owned by Chris Waller Racing while being prepared for the race by Darren Weir.
“We are in a very fortunate position to hold a slot and be in a position to showcase the stable’s best sprinter when the time is right, however when the opportunity to have a horse of the calibre of Brave Smash represent the slot for my shareholders it was a straight forward decision,’’ Chris Waller said.
Australian Bloodstock’s Jamie Lovett said Brave Smash is a better horse this year than he was in 2017 and is rapt to be able to set the entire for the race again. “Darren Weir was very keen to secure a slot early this year and target the race. To be given the opportunity to represent Hall of Fame trainer Chris Waller and his partners in their slot is a huge thrill,” Lovett said.
