Nobody doubts Le Romain’s talent, he’s a three time Group 1 winner closing on $3 million in prizemoney.

The six-year-old has been top line performer most of his career winning the Group 1 Randwick Guineas at three and at his most recent start he gave the champ Winx a minor fright in the Group 1 Colgate Optic White Stakes.

While he wasn’t the first choice of Greg Ingham’s GPI Racing for the Everest, Ingham initially selected Invincible Star, the gelding is a versatile and accomplished sprinter-miler with plenty going for him.

GPI Racing’s spokesman Andrew Williams said Ingham was disappointed for the connections of Invincible Star with having to make a late change but believes they have a realistic winning chance.

“We were so happy to take Invincible Star when we did, we followed her the whole way through and we loved getting her at that particular time,’’ Williams said.

“But to be able to have Le Romain as a replacement at short notice is huge. In Greg’s words we are taking a warrior to war.

“He’s proven at weight-for-age level time and time again. His Randwick performances have been astonishing and we have this rain forecast which could change things considerably.’’.
